Discover how to use ASP.NET to build, deploy, and run 10 distributed Web applications that can target any browser on any device ASP.NET provides developers with the functionality they need to create enterprise-level Web applications. This book clearly shows them how to use this framework to create the top ten enterprise applications that they will need for their organizations. To build these applications, Smith explains how to combine the functionality of ASP.NET with products and technologies such as VB.NET, C#, ADO.NET, SQL Server 2000, WAP, XML, HTML, JavaScript, and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The projects include an address book application, a contact manager application, advertising manager, online store, and a Web log analyzer. CD-ROM includes the complete source code for the ten projects, additional resource links, corrections, and FAQs. Companion Web site features a working version of the ten projects built in the book. Microsoft Technologies .NET Platform: The next big overhaul to Microsoft's technologies that will bring enterprise distributed computing to the next level by fully integrating the Internet into the development platform. This will allow interaction between any machine, on any platform, and on any device. Visual Basic.NET: The update to this popular visual programming language will offer greater Web functionality, more sophisticated object-oriented language features, links to Microsoft's new common runtime, and a new interface. ASP.NET: A programming framework (formerly known as Active Server Pages) for building powerful Web-based enterprise applications; can be programmed using VB.NET or C#. C#: Microsoft's new truly object-oriented programming language that builds on the strengths of C++ and the ease of Visual Basic; promises to give Sun's Java a run for its money. This book is outstanding! I've learned almost as much from it as from Microsoft's own "IBuySpy" demo site. Probably the thing I like most about it was that it is written correctly, using code-behind pages and OO programming principles, not just slopped out as an example. Just being able to use the code as-is without having to translate to "real world" standards is a real relief. I've got probably a dozen ASP.NET books, and this is the one (along with SAM's ASP.NET Unleashed) that stays by my side.
The Best "how-to" Book available on VB.Net

Sufficiently challenging and well-written. The content shows that the author put serious thought behind the design of his applications. The book is well-edited, and as a result, the topics flow easily. If you are serious about .Net and need to quickly learn the normative techniques for ASP application design, I strongly recommend ASP.Net at Work by Eric Smith.
The Best "how-to" book on ASP.Net

Finally a well-written book with good examples on ASP.Net. Eric Smith's applications are very good and they are challenging from the beginning. (The first chapter is no Hello-World, but rather an address book). Well edited and error-free. A great way to expose yourself to the normative techniques in ASP.Net design.
Great book to learn ASP.NET and VB.NET

I've just worked my way through 2/3rds of the book and I must say that I am both impressed and overwhelmed. Impressed by the fact that the author has such a deep grasp of the .NET classes/framework and overwhelmed by how much I am learning. I am planning to go through the book again, from cover to cover after I finish this itteration, just to try to pick up some of the tidbits that I might have missed. I have gone through "cover-to-cover" 5 books on VB.NET and 3 on ASP.NET, and this one ranks at the top of my list for ASP.NET and should be considered for the more advance VB.NET people as well. I can honestly say that you don't need to be an expert at VB.NET to get some great things from this book, but if you look closely at the VB.NET code, you will pick up a ton of useful (real-world) information.
