Au Revoir from a Bridge to Nowhere

High school senior Garrett Raines is in a dark place. Both literally and figuratively. Novembre was his best friend. And now she's gone. Hit and run. She never stood a chance.

That was a year ago. But Garrett still longs for her presence. Her voice. Her smile. Her scent. And he still longs to tell her the truth. That he wants to be more than friends. That he's madly in love with her. That he has been since day one.

For the first time in a long time, he ditches school and goes to the cave-the secret hideout where he and Novembre shared so many good times together. And for the first time ever, he ventures past the main room. Into the deep crevices. The narrow fissures. It's tight back there, and he ends up getting stuck. For hours. When he finally escapes, he discovers that time hasn't moved forward. It's moved backward. A lot. More than a hundred years.

Which is impossible. It must be a dream. A nightmare. One that he can't wake up from. One where he's railroaded into military service. Forced to fight in a war he only knows about from history books...

But maybe he can use the situation to his advantage. Maybe he can deliver a sealed envelope to one of Novembre's ancestors. A warning message. Maybe it can be passed down through several generations, and ultimately make it into Novembre's hands.
