Text and photographs present several kinds of bears, including polar, grizzly, and black, engaged in a variety of activities. This description may be from another edition of this product.
My daughter and I read this as part of our study on grizzly bears for our literature study on the Little House books. The pictures are wonderful, and the text gives good information on the different bears (polar, black and grizzly). The back section gives even more details that are useful to know about the bears - their habitat, food preferences, size details and so on. These facts are great for making little fact cards!
GREAT ADDITION TO A GREAT SERIES

This is a 1986 addition to the Books For Youg Explorers published by the National Geographic Society. The book is about bears, specifically, baby bear and like the title says, "how they grow." The text and picturs start with the birth of a bear in mid winter and then follows it's development to adulthood. The pictures are typically National Geographic's first rate quality. Black Bears, Polar Bears and Grizzly Bears are all featured. The text is simple and to the point and quite well done. As I said, the photography is wonderful..great wildlife photography. These are obviously not tame bears in set-up situations, but the real thing, taken in the wild. This is a wonderful book for children (and adults) interested in bears and a great introduction. The book consisits of 32 pages and the photographs are in color. Highly recommend this one. It is a great read for the class room as well as one on one.
