The stories treat some theological themes liberally (by reading between the lines, the word "heresy" might come to mind), yet these stories provide serious fiction dealing with subjects not generally covered in churches or seminaries. Salvation for whales, comparing Redemption to a 1968 Ford Mustang, and the truth behind the book of Jonah are just three of the ideas dealt with here. Marvin Kananen, the writer of these stories, wants Luther back in his Lutheran Church, Christ back in Christianity, and God back in everyone's life. These stories are the first rock he is throwing in the next Reformation, something we all need in our churches and our lives. Subtitled "Short Stories Meant to Shake the Rigid and Challenge the Spineless" with a photo of a gutless, spineless fish on the cover combine to represent Kananen's version of being subtle.
