So many beautiful illustrations!! Love that they used pictures from the cartoon instead of just barbies.

I am not a particular fan of Barbie or movie novelizations, so I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this early chapter book. Readers take note: there are no characters named Barbie OR Pegasus in the book. There are, however, plenty of flying horses, along with a polar bear, griffin, assorted royalty, and an evil wizard. Seventeen year old Annika is a free spirit who chafes at her parents' overprotection. When she ends up being threatened by the evil wizard Wenlock, she sees the error of her ways -- but not before Wenlock turns her parents and the rest of the townspeople into stone! Annika has three days to break the spell, or everyone will stay statues forever. With loyal friends at her side (including the prerequisite love interest), Anikka has a series of adventures to discover that undoing the wizard's spell will require courage, hope, selflessness, and love. The book is fast-paced and illustrated with screenshots from the movie. The language and plot elements are more complex than books with a similar RL1 rating, so younger readers will probably need some help in getting through the book.
