Fantastic review guide for third grade State Testing.

This is a fantastic review guide for anyone who has a child in the third grade. We all know that Barron's Educational is the top seller of review guides and it is obvious why. The content and quality of the book are first rate (aside from a few spelling and description errors we encountered; which truth-be-told, can be expected in a first edition book). The book is aligned with the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) so you can have confidence that all possible material that could be on the test will be reviewed. If you do not live within the boundaries of NJ, the book can still be useful to your child. NJCCCS are aligned with the National Standards making it useful to third graders across the country. So you should have no worries that something your child may see on his/her assessment will not be covered in the book. I personally use this book in my classroom and find it is very helpful. Parents enjoy the use of the book as well because unlike the other review guides out there, this one has VERY detailed explanations that go along with each question. As far as the alternatives, there are only two other guides on the market right now for my students and they do a very poor job explaining the answers in a way that children can understand. Instead, they are more of a workbook with only questions/answers; no explanations. This is a key point for me because the book is not primarily used in the classroom (where I would be able to explain it to them). Students' daily schedules are already packed with curriculum so this is only a supplement to what they already receive. Having students take the book home to work on it is ideal because the answers are explained in plain English. The clear explanations seem to be the strong point of this book, and what sets it apart from the rest. We have used every review guide on the market, and this one has been the best so far. I will continue to use this guide in my classroom next year, and from what I have heard, it looks like many other districts in our area will be adopting it as well. So definitely take a minute and check it out at your local bookstore, or just grab one online.
