Good start for the clueless

For a total MIDI beginner, this is a very good intro. I am an old ex pro musician who hasn't done anything musical for over 20 years and decided to try my hand at doing something on my iMac. This little book describes the terminology, software, hardware, etc., requirements that a beginner should be expected to know about. It allowed me to take my next step without feeling totally ignorant. Very basic, just like the title says.
An excellent introduction to the MIDI world

I bought this book because I was keen to connect my PC to my keyboard but had no idea what I would need in the way of hardware or software. The book covers all the areas that you need to know about to get going in the MIDI world. The information is presented in a way that is neither too simplistic to be useful nor too complex to be off-putting. The style of writing made it possible to read the book from beginning to end and not just to use it as a reference, although the well defined chapters and comprehensive index make it very easy to find particular parts again. This book has met my needs 100%.

First, I don't know why, but the book I recieved has a different Cover... But anyway, here my comments":- Very easy to read and follow - Right to the point with with very well written and undestandable explanations. - Nice book to use as reference for beginners or intermediates like me. - As the name says, it's a it covers the "basics" of MIDI, and I haven't found a book that precise like this yet.Something funny: The authors writes: "MIDI is no sound" but then at the appendix section under "Common Cable Connections" he illustrates all kinds of AUDIO cables.. NO MIDI cables ! :)Anyway, if you are like me, a computer and musc lover, beginning to do some serious music work on a computer, this book will kick start you to the MIDI world.

"Basic MIDI" is a great primer to the in's & out's ( & thru's) of MIDI as a tool for any experienced or aspiring musician. The book itself is a pocket-sized reference that has current information regarding the technology and proven techniques that professionals are using today.Paul White has written book that is very easy to read and understand, and he takes the time to explain the technical terms as he introduces them.Again, I feel this book is a must-have for any musician and is the first on the subject to cover such a wide-variety of instrumentation that MIDI has now become a part of.
