What distinguishes great leaders? Exceptional leaders capture passion. They lead for real: from the heart, smart and focused on the future, and with a commitment to being their very best. As Annie McKee and Richard Boyatzis have shown in their bestselling books Primal Leadership and Resonant Leadership, they create resonance with others. Through resonance, leaders become attuned to the needs and dreams of people they lead. They create conditions where people can excel. They sustain their effectiveness through renewal. McKee, Boyatzis, and Frances Johnston share vivid, real-life stories illuminating how people can develop emotional intelligence, build resonance, and renew themselves. Reflecting twenty years of longitudinal research and practical wisdom with executives and leaders around the world, this new book is organized around a core of experience-tested exercises. These tools help you articulate your strengths and values, craft a plan for intentional change, and create resonance with others. Practical and inspiring, Becoming a Resonant Leader is your hands-on guide to developing emotional intelligence, renewing and sustaining yourself and your relationships, and taking your leadership to a whole new level. This book is ideal for anyone seeking personal and professional development and for consultants, coaches, teachers, and faculty to use with their clients or students.
Good resource for coaches and those who help develop leaders

An excellent book and a good companion guide to their previous book - Resonant Leadership: Renewing Yourself and Connecting with Others Through Mindfulness, Hope and Compassion. I thought that the exercises would be particularly useful tools for those who help develop leaders (coaches, etc). A few observations: On page 39 it mentions (in one paragraph) that "..there is compassion - not often discussed in books on leadership. But compassion is a very important aspect....". So I thought, this is good! Finally a leadership book that discusses compassion! But I was disappointed as there is no discussion anywhere in the book about compassion. Overall I thought some important areas of mindfulness (compassion is one of them) were somewhat shortchanged in an otherwise excellent book. What about 'intuition'? Or 'leading from the heart?' Or 'integrity'? Resonant leaders, first and foremost, need to be attuned with themselves. This area could have been given more attention in the book. Authors are very insightful. Good to look at this side of leadership as it gets the most folks to follow.
Becoming A Resonant Leader

This is a companion workbook to Resonant Leadership that practically shows you how to become a resonant leader as well as a better, more engaged person through the use of exercises. I use this workbook in my coaching practice and consider it a wonderful tool to help my clients reflect on areas of their life that they may not have had an opportunity to do in some time. If you or someone you care about is ready to start living life with intentionality, this is a great workbook to get you started on that journey.

This book and the conversations it instigates create change for the betterment of the world. When the reader takes the time to reflect on personal experiences and growth opportunities, ones life vision becomes obvious. Leadership, in all aspects of life, is developed and defined for the personal growth of the reader. As the instructor for The Institute for Leadership and Character Development [...], this book provided a wonderful framework for learning.
Strongly recommended! A process for leading and for life

This is a great book. I've read the other two books by McKee and Boyatzis, and this takes the core ideas around hope and compassion and makes them more concrete for the leader. I was surprised by how inspired I became from actually doing the exercises. I feel grounded and clearer about what I want from my work, and from life. Strongly recommended.
