lovely illustrations, great little story

we love alexander stadler's whimsical illustrations. this story of excitement at giving a special gift and overcoming obstacles along the way is fun and imparts a worthwhile lesson. my 3-year olds are just starting to understand it, and my 7 year old still finds it fun too.

We did this book in my 4-year-old's pre-school class and followed it up with a decorate-your-own-cupcake project. The kids loved it. The project reinforced the book and allowed them the tactile stimulation as well as the didactic. Now my sone reads the book to me and begs me to make cupcakes!
