So many Christian book studies, so many Bible studies!! Of them all, to me, this one has done the most for my relationship with God. Initially, I wanted to quickly identify my mask, fix it and place a check on the complete box. Finding the mask wasn't hard. Fixing it was what I found to be impossible. In this book, Dr. Slattery leads her readers to God's answer for this dilemma.

I have read this book four times and with each reading I am drawn closer to God. Realizing my worth as a child of God is very freeing. And that is what this book encourages. All people wear masks. We learned to wear them from a very young age. For a while they worked quite well but they eventually deprived us of true intamacy with God and with other people. This book is about taking off our masks. The author has a solid knowledge of the Bible as well as a wise grasp of psychology. She offers practical examples to difficult concepts. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to any person, male or female. I found it to be challenging and transforming.

If you are looking to "go deep" and see what God intends for your value and worth to be based on, this is the book for you. It has been life-changing for me. It is challenging, thought-provoking, inspirational and wonderfully real. We all wear masks to protect ourselves...to hide...but what we don't realize is that it hinders us from having intimacy with God and others. Intimacy and acceptance is what we all so desperately want and need. There is a freedom that comes admitting we are less than perfect and that we need help...God is always there to answer our call.

What more can I say, it changed my life for the better. You won't be able to read this without making a change yourself too. Masks will come off and the love of God will envelope you for who you are - HIS BELOVED CHILD! Julie (the author) has a shoot from the hip style that is easy to relate to and gets to the nitty gritty of self-esteem issues. If you want a fluffy hug, watch the big purple dinosaur.
