Seduced by peril--and cold, hard cash--street-smart Johnny Ocean has earned himself an Upper East Side townhouse, a faithful Sikh butler, and a reputation for taking cases other lawyers won't touch. Enter his latest client, the shadowy Pandora Markham, an upper-crust temptress so shrouded in mystery that she has yet to come face-to-face with her own attorney... On the surface, the case appears to be nothing more than a catfight between a pair of sisters-in-law over a $170 million inheritance. Johnny is isn't fooled by its seeming simplicity. Nor, as the inevitable grim reality snares him in an ominous underworld web, is he frightened--not at first. But Pandora Markham hasn't told him everything--and what Johnny doesn't know can kill him...
Before The Big Cut, thrillers were just thrilling. Golub's novel is sexy, scary, and has a plot with more wrinkles than a shar-pei. What's next Johnny Ocean?

Worthy first effort

Aaron Golub is clearly on the inside "know" of the New York court system. "The Big Cut" features PI/high power attorney, Johnny Ocean. Johnny handles cases for the rich who prefer to remain annonymous. He's a flashy guy who knows his way round a tort. K, Johnny's sikh houseman and part-time assistant is a fascinating character in his own right. When Johnny is handed a case in which he represents a mysterious woman named Pandora who's being sued for the payment of her dead husbands debt of $170 million by her sister-in-law he's in for more toil and trouble than he bargains for. He's shot, seduced, and lied to. But he's determined to get to the bottom of it. This is a great first effort on Golub's part. Hopefully, we'll see more of Johnny Ocean and K.
