In 263 pages, the author poses 199 interesting, riddle-like, science-based questions; each of these is immediately followed by an answer that can span from a short paragraph or two up to a page or two at most. The book is divided into eight main sections, representing different general themes. Although the selected topics are somewhat varied in the scientific disciplines that are highlighted, it is chemistry that plays the overall leading role - thus reflecting the author's professional background. I must admit that the author's plan of provoking a "Gee, I didn't know that!" effect on readers has been entirely successful in my case. The writing style is authoritative, clear, very friendly and quite accessible. This is a book that can be read in a continuous fashion (like a novel) or in dribs and drabs (like a fact book) without any loss of continuity. It can be enjoyed by absolutely anyone, especially those fascinated by little-known scientific facts that are related in some way to everyday life.
