I am a novice at baking bread. I tried the All-Purpose Plain Dough (a recipe from the US) a few days ago, however, and the bread turned out great! No photographs, but the instructions are very clear!
Used the book for 20 or so years, like it a lot.

We bought this book in a PX when we lived in Germany, and have kept a copy ever since. There are more elaborate and comprehensive bread books around, but the author presents a well-rounded collection of pretty foolproof recipes. The recipe for Italian oregano bread has been a favorite of ours, as are the recipes for Portugese sweet bread and various Skandinavian pastries. I came looking for a new copy to replace our old one, which suffered a terminal soaking, and was sad to see the book is out-of-print. I think enough of it to buy a used copy.
