While this book is rather dated -- it was initially published in 1973 and is based on fieldwork done even earlier -- it is a classic of comparative organizational/industrial sociology. I can't say that I enjoyed reading it, but that's mainly because it was required for a course and my perspective at the time was much more Marxist than sociological and I objected to every non-materialist inference that Dore drew. Nevertheless, in retrospect, this is a well-written, well-observed, and solid scholarly work. Note that it is written by an academic for academics; it's nobody's casual reading.
