I found it invaluable when creating material explaining the token ring protocol

In the fall of 2007, I reorganized a basic course in networking for a CIS major. The new emphasis was on the theoretical foundations of networking, in particular the structure of protocols. I spent some time on the IBM token ring packet structures, as it is an interesting topology and makes a stark contrast to Ethernet. I wrote the material that I used to cover the token ring and while writing it I relied heavily on this book. The segments of C code were of particular value; sometimes the best way to learn theory is by reading code that reads the consequences of the theory. The student feedback to the changes was anecdotal but sound. They found the emphasis on theory to be particularly helpful as it had applications to other areas of their profession.
