This poignant story is very subtle and quite poetic in its portrayal of complicated relations (both funny and sad) between the aging folks (who still act like children) in a small Southern town. It is an ironic combination of high comedy with the most subtle insights into human weaknesses. The kind of stuff that makes you love the human race in spite of, and because of its flaws. I just don't know why this wonderful novel is rare and out of print. I enjoyed it as much as every one of Pearson's other masterpieces. I'm saddened by its obscurity, but love it like a secret treasure. Somebody please reprint it. T.R., if you're out there, keep going. We need more like this!
