Traveling with their uncle to Bolivia sounded like a lot of fun to 13-year-old twins Jenny and Justin Parker. When they get tangled up with some smugglers, however, the twins' only escape may be the cursed Cave of Inca Re.
All right, I admit it - I was a little put off by the kind of lame, self-published look to the cover art. Fortunately, I cracked open the book and liked what I saw. And so, this book became part of my ongoing quest to find cool and worthy books to read to my kids (girl-11 and boy-13) in the evenings. Well, they loved it, and we are reading the next book in the series right now! The story centers around the adventures of twins Justin and Jenny Parker as they travel with their uncle to Bolivia. An interesting setting (the author spent much of her life in South America and it shows in her descriptions, artifact smugglers, ancient temple ruins and a deadly curse add just the right amount of excitement. The kids' faith is woven into the story, but doesn't hijack the plotline, or become preachy. Good stuff! Ms. Windle has written quite a few in this series, as well as some adventure novels for adults. Be sure to check them out!
