A period of 100 years will bring many changes to any place and its people. The small town of Celbridge, 12 miles west of Dublin was to see many changes during the 19th century. Religion was a most important factor in the lives of the people of Celbridge -- in their work, education and politics. This study examines the changes that took place in the Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland communities during that period. It looks at the people involved in that change and examines the relationship between these two religious groups in a manner which may shed some new light on the changes that were taking place in the country as a whole.
