A nice addition to any sailing enthusiast's "big book" library

This is a brief but comprehensive historical and pictorial survey of sailing vessels. Lots of beautiful and large color photos (with fine color engravings/paintings for earlier categories), accompanied by informative text and picture captions. The author is Director of Publications at Mystic Seaport Museum; he founded Nautical Quarterly and wrote two other books and numerous magazine articles. Chapters include: introduction; ancient sail; 19th century sail; day boats; cruising classics; racing classics; replicas and reproductions; luxury yachts.

NOT BEING A SAILOR OR KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT BOATS IT SEEMED VERY FRIENDLY AND INFORMATIVE AT THE SAME TIME. THE BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHS ENHANCED THE INFORMATION RATHER THAN IGNORING THE INFORMATION AND CONCENTRATING ON THE PICTURES.THIS BOOK IS FOR A SAILOR AND I THINK HE WILL ENJOY IT.
