Lesh has put together a fairly comprehensive text on orthopedic issues for students in physical therapist assistant programs. From pediatric to geriatric issues Lesh brings current literature (at date of publication) and important concepts together at a level of depth that is very near perfect for the intended audience. Our program has been looking for a text like this and I believe this is the only one out there in this area. Pictures and diagrams are appropriate and assist in explanation of orthopedic treatment techniques. Lesh has written the text for an interactive teaching model and not the typical 'talking head' approach. He has obviously incorporated many of his personal clinical experiences in sports therapy and orthopedics. This approach encourages active learning and I believe better knowledge retention. Also, Lesh has put together a thought provoking teacher's guide to the text that I have reviewed on CD-ROM. This guide contains commentary by the author on case studies presented in the text and further insights for the PTA educator. This book should be a required text in any PTA educational curriculum.
