Excellent! However...

I am a first year VT student who finds this book INVALUABLE. As others have noted, this is a well-rounded, knowledgeable text. However, as a reptile owner, I was dismayed to note that, on p. 486, suggested protein sources for juvenile iguanas include "dog food, monkey biscuits, and tofu." In a word, NO! This was the thinking perhaps a decade ago, but continued research by respected herpetoculturists has proven that the best diet for a juvenile iguana is TOTALLY herbivorous. (See www.anapsid.org for details) This is merely one sentence in an otherwise exceptional book, but I find it somewhat irresponsible. Exotics owners already deal w/ a plethora of misinformation, why proliferate such outdated ideas in such a trusted text? Yes, I plan to concentrate eventually on reptile medicine...:)
The Bible

There is a reason that this book is referred to as "The Bible" at our clinic. It is extremely informative for any assistant or technician. It covers everything top to bottom and is a great resource to keep on your shelf.

If you are looking for a single book for Vet Techs then this is it. I have several of the "topic focused" books and find the same information here in this book at the level of detail that I need. I consider this the Vet Tech bible...
must-have study material

I am an unlicensed tech and want to take The Test later this year to get certified. Everyone I have talked to swears by this book as the most comprehensive review for techs. It doesn't get too detailed in some areas....you'll still want specialized texts for subjects like pharmacology or anatomy. But this is the one book every tech and student should have. A note of warning....if you buy this book used, make sure you get a RED covered copy. Older editions have a green cover and may have out-of-date info.
Necessity for every tech!
