College freshman Kazuki Sendoh failed to get into the arts college he was hoping for, but assures his worried friend Mizuki Takase that he can do what he wants to do, draw, even without getting into there. A mutual friend, Taishi Kuhonbutsu, calls them out to attend a Doujinshi Exhibition, or 'Comic Party' (a.k.a. 'ComiPa'). Doujinshi are self-published manga that can be stories/parodies based off of famous manga, anime, and movies, or can be original works. Separated from his friends in the crowd, Kazuki first meets Yuu Inagawa, long-haired, glasses-wearing head of the doujinshi 'circle' (or group) 'Karamitei' ('Spicy Restaurant' is a possible translation), who's also a spunky artist from Kansai. Yuu ends up in a fight with rude customers, a fight Kazuki tries to break up before a member of the Comic Party staff, Minami Makimura, shows up. Still looking for his friends, Kazuki encounters the innocent, clumsy girl Chisa, who has lost control of the cart she was pushing. Chisa thanks Kazuki as 'oniisan' (big brother) and runs off, only to crash again. Next, Kazuki reunites with Yuu, who is picking a fight with the egotistical doujinshi author Eimi Ohba, who runs studio 'Cat or Fish'
