Aernout Mik is one of the most important artists working with video art today. Mik's installations incorporate aspects of film, video, performance, sculpture and architecture, and his overriding themes include the ongoing financial crisis, economic depression, racism and social unrest. Presenting key works from the past twelve years, Communitas deconstructs and proposes new approaches to these problems without attempting to provide definitive answers. Aernout Mik was born in Groningen, Holland, in 1962 and today lives and works in Amsterdam. His installations have been part of numerous solo and group exhibitions, and are found in many public collections. In 2007 Mik represented Holland at the Venice Biennale.
