This is a good book for those interested learning the the community oriented policing philosophy. The author covers the history through current practices curently being used in progressive cities in the US. The author even covers how this phiosophy is being implemented in foreign countries, such as New Zealand. There are suggestions and ideas to begin the transition from a reactionary police force to a community oriented department. The author covers the concept of "direct patrol' and how this method can be used to address citizen complaints about small crimes which impact livabity in neighborhoods. He offers ways to work with communities that don't require additional money or personnel. I would recommned this book to college/universities who have criminal justice programs or for police administrators desiring to learn about the community oriented philosophy.
