This is a great no nonsense book on neck and back pain. In the book, the doc goes over many common conditions that are associated with pain and goes over various therapies often used to treat them. He recommeds that we tackle back/neck pain with some exercise (like short walks) as there is much data on the effectiveness on this. The body and especially the spine require motion by design in order to be healthy. He suggests that doing specific exercises in general (like physiotherapy) may cause more harm then good and that good old walking maybe the best bet. He cautions against the excessive use of caffeine and alcohol as these may lead to a bad outcome. I have a grade one spondylolisthesis and have found his suggestions helpful.

This book is a great resource for the millions of people that suffer from back pain. My doctor recommended the book and I was skeptical, but after reading and taking Dr Mark Brown's advice it is working. I have started walking more and doing some Yoga stretching and my back feels much better. I know there are many cases that are serious and probably need surgey, but if you are undecided you should read this book. I would tell anyone who is suffering from low back pain to give this book a read and it could be a life saver. Thanks, Jeff Douglas

This is a great resource to help folks avoid the common pitfalls of dealing with back and neck pain. It kept me from going to the next step (steroid shots) and then to back surgery. Walk it off is working.
