This book is truly a gem. The information on Paulo Freier, The Choice Theory, and Clinchy's, "Needed: A New Civil Rights Movement in Public Education" were extremely insightful and inspiring. I wish I had been introduced to this text earlier in my educational career. I wonder if The Secretary of Education of our country has read this book. He certainly should and so should our President (whom I greatly respect, admire, and personally believe has the best of intentions but not necessarily the best and most truthful advice on public education). I also hope educational reformers in "high places" truly interested in progressive, equitable educational reform for all, rather than those "so-called educational reformers" whose major mission and hidden agenda focuses on the dismantling of public schools, would read the book as well. In my honest opinion, any educated individual who cannot clearly see that "for-profit" and "not-for-profit" charter schools, educational voucher systems, and the subplanting of uncertified teachers who have not completed a formal teacher education program in American schools is just another attempt to perpetuate elitism, classism, and privatize American public schools.

I really found that this text had enough case studies and information when used for my graduate course. It makes you see how you can apply the information to scenarios in the text and relate it to the educational system to enhance student learning. I recommend this text.
