Conversation in Tehran is the latest novel written by "Seyyed Mehdi Mousavi". The story is about 13 persons in Tehran, the Capital of Iran, during 2009. However, the story is out of chronological order and is not limited to a specific time and/or location.Although we see the story as a political-romance one on the first look, the novel is generally an analysis about contemporary generations in the countries experiencing modernization. The story could be considered as a post-modern novel according to the form of narrative, between the texts and hypertext references, continual changing narrator and point of view, polyphony, using language capabilities and above all, the theme. However, the author escapes from belonging to a particular literary genre or movement.Although the name of the novel is derived from Conversation in the Cathedral, a 1969 famous novel by "Mario Vargas Llosa" which is indicated in the Dedication Page, there is no so much similarity in theme between them, even in form. In Conversation in Tehran we see so many overt and covert tributes and references to books, movies, and various artworks most of which go beyond a simple mention. To read or watch the mentioned artwork could be a key for opening the locks of the complex story of Conversation in Tehran.Undoubtedly, general audience would enjoy the romance-political narrative and also unraveling the knots as much as professional reader who pleasures intricate techniques used for creation of tone, form and more important, Freudian, Jungian and Lacanian analysis; two distinct pleasures of this novel will be created in two different readings.
