Book Overview

Illustrated by Warren Kimble Supper is a time for breaking bread with family, friends, and strangers who become friends. In Vermont, this means a tradition of communal eating -- church suppers, chicken barbecues, fish fries, turkey socials, potluck, and pie auctions. Country Suppers pulls together a neighborly collection of more than 125 recipes from supper sojourners, dishes that are easy to put together and delicious to partake of, like Butternut Squash and Apple Soup, Mustard Maple Glazed Lamb Chops, and Blueberry Cobbler. Ruth Cousineau's satisfying recipes are packed with country kitchen tips and wisdom and are accompanied by the captivating folk art of Warren Kimble, a world of oversized sheep and sleepy country towns.

Full of heart-warming, delicious recipes!

We have tried many of the recipes in this simple-to-follow cookbook. No fancy ingredients, utensils or gadgets needed- just the good old basics used to produce favorite meals for the whole family. Delicious- from Apple-and-Onion-Stuffed Pork Chops, to Grandma's Potato Soup, Buttermilk Bread, and on through such desserts as Caramel Apple Pie, and Old-fashioned Chocolate Jumbles, the recipes are a success each time. A great gift for yourself or someone else (newlyweds, or a housewarming etc.)- it will actually be used and enjoyed!!!

Every recipe is a winner!

Every recipe that I have tried to date is a winner. The pearls of wisdom contained between recipes are entertaining and enlightening. Makes a great gift for yourself and for all your friends who enjoy being in the kitchen.

Food for the heart, soul, and family.

A delightful and easy to use cookbook that captures the history of country cooking and family farm life. Simple recipes from years back have been updated for a slightly more sophisticated palate, but the charm and pleasure remain. Contains some very enjoyable anecdotes from farm and country history. A very pleasant and readable cookbook. What a terrific heirloom gift!
