Book Overview

A traditional American Indian folklore character gets a modern update in Coyote Christmas, a charming holiday picture book from award-winning author and illustrator S. D. Nelson.

On Christmas Eve on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, Coyote wants to find some people to trick out of a hot meal. Sneaky Coyote is known by American Indians as the Trickster. He knows that there's one person people can't refuse on Christmas Eve: Santa Claus In red rags and a woolly Santa's beard, the Trickster fools a family into welcoming him to their Christmas dinner. But just when he thinks he's gotten away with his ruse, taking their food and leaving the family with nothing, he's foiled by a strange occurrence. Could it be a Christmas miracle?

Coyote's antics, beautifully told and illustrated by award-winning author and member of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe S. D. Nelson, will delight readers, and his eventual comeuppance just in time for Christmas makes this a perfect holiday tale.

Coyote Christmas is Captivating and Charming!

I am a huge fan of S.D. Nelson's artistic gifts. This book is no exception. The artwork is as engaging as the story. I have every book he has ever written or illustrated. If you enjoyed this book, pick up a copy of "The Star People", written by Nelson. He constantly amazes me with his use of colors and images. I only hope one day I have the pleasure of shaking his hand and telling him so in person. I am a brand new teacher and I hope to utilize this story in my classroom. Thanks again for another great book!

This book is a good chldrens book for the holidays. The coyote, who likes to tick everyone, is the one who is tricked. The children I read to have short attention spands, so the short story was a nice length. And the illustrations were great.
