Grown men in Boy Scout uniforms, old ladies with really long hair . . . this hilarious book will creep you out. In his hilarious yet disturbing (because it's so true) book Creepiosity: A Hilarious Guide to the Unintentionally Creepy, comedy writer David Bickel presents readers with 100 of the most unsettling everyday things, such as grown men in Boy Scout uniforms, old ladies with really long hair, fish with people faces, lifelike baby dolls, and much more. Bickel infuses each subject with comedic insight into what exactly makes it creepy and provides an appropriately hilarious photo to help illustrate his point. And since not all creepiness is created equal, Bickel has invented an unnecessarily complex mathematical formula (or Creepiosity Index, if you will) to quantify each unsettling item's relative creepiness. (Band-Aids that were once affixed to someone's body but now aren't: 7.454.) However, Bickel also acknowledges that creepiness, universal as it may be, is far from absolute. To that end, he invites readers to assign their own Creepiosity number to these and other curiosities via a companion Web site. (For example, what's more disturbing, hairless cats or Dick Cheney smiling? You decide )
When I was invited to follow Creepiosity on Facebook I had no idea it was being turned into a book. I'd been mailing the photos to my non-FB office friends for weeks and they made for great water cooler jokes & conversation. So I was pleasantly surprised when I found out the book had been published and ordered it immediately. The greatest comedians and writers are ones that somehow get into your head, know exactly how you think, and turn otherwise mundane daily pictures and events into focused hilarity. Bickel is one such individual. He brings to the forefront, both visually and with the cleverest of prose, those off-putting thoughts & images that live in the recesses of our minds & only emerge when glaringly presented. The photos are striking & the accompanying text is laugh-out-loud funny. The creepiosity indices only add to the jokes. In a time where life seems to be taken way too seriously, we need laughs. A lot of them. And this book certainly delivers. Dave, know that somewhere in heaven, on a gay cloud, Billy Ray Briley is mighty proud.
addictive, disturbingly addictive!

I picked this book up on a whim and found myself completely enthralled by the writing and pictures. Disturbingly so, like an on-going slow motion train wreck that you just can't look away from. There's even a footnote on a footnote, for the truly nerdy. Definitely recommended, way more fascinating than you'd think and very well done from one of America's top comedy geniuses.
Seven Kinds of Creepy Awesome

Equal parts hilarious and disturbing, I highly recommend this read. I too have felt an odd malaise walking by a grown man in a boy scout uniform or an oddly occupied stroller - now I know why: it's creepy. Not quite scary, but definitely creepy.
No, this glowing review is not from David's Mother

When I first started following David Bickel's @Creepiosity profile on twitter, I was intrigued by his -- how shall I put this in politically correct terms? -- "unique" sense of humor. I was also entertained, sometimes horrified, and generally in utter agreement with his choices as to what qualifies as unintentionally creepy (except for the chapter about multiple cat ownership). What makes David a genius is that he has given a perfect name to those things we've all been aware of via an unbidden shudder here, or an eyeroll there, but never had a way to express it before. His book is genius. He's genius. And you will never look at life the same after you read it. Which you will. Because you're going to buy it. Otherwise, David might send a troupe of Red-Ass Monkeys after you. Seriously. He's like that.
Creepy and funny

Finally a book that's creepy but also very, very funny. Open letter to a homeless guy is hilarious. The author, David Bickel is a former writer/producer for THE KING OF QUEENS. This book proves that he is also the KING OF CREEPY.
