Having read all of Dick Francis's books and most of his sons, it really is a toss up as to whom is the better writer. Felix's prose reads very smooth. The scene in the middle of this book where the main character is confined is brilliant and cries out to be made into a film. We should not be surprised, after all, he learned from the master.
