"D-Day as They Saw It" is an excellent blend of American, British, German and other European sources taken directly from letters, diaries, newspapers and various other correspondences. While some of the book focuses on the views of the big shots such as Eisenhower, Rommel, and Montgomery much of the book is dedicated to sources from front line, common soldiers. Descriptions of the Normandy invasion are fantastic and thrilling and give an insight into the battle that only those who were there could describe. As a 'history from below' "D-Day As They Saw It" is an excellent compilation of primary sources from the events of June 6, 1944.
