From an Emmy award-winning author comes a high-voltage psychological thriller, whose film rights have already been sold to Paramount/Scott Rudin. Charged with suspense and powered by canny intelligence, Walter Marks's taut debut crime novel pits the rigorously trained and disciplined mind of a promising young psychiatrist, David Rothberg, against the acute, if warped wits of a convicted murderer in a maximum security prison. As the unseasoned doctor strives to determine whether a prospective parolee--Victor Thomas Janko, once known as the Baby Carriage Killer, and now, after years in solitary confinement, a celebrated prison artist--if released, would behave in a manner dangerous to others, he finds himself drawn unwillingly into the psychological quicksand of his enigmatic subject's phobias and fantasies. A guard at New York's Vanderkill Upstate Correctional Facility has no doubts about Janko's guilt or danger: he's often heard the prisoner boast about his crime. And the prison priest tells David that Janko is evil incarnate. Janko himself claims to have no memory of committing the gruesome murder that captured headlines nationwide, while his girlfriend Daisy maintains that Victor, a loving man, could never kill anyone--and that she can prove it. Each of them, however, has a hidden agenda, and all of them complicate the issue that confronts David, on whose increasingly clouded judgment rests the parole of a possibly seriously disturbed man. What complicates matters even more for David as he tries to penetrate the mysterious case of Victor Thomas Janko in this riveting crime thriller are the demons he confronts within himself--demons that may prove to be the agents of his own destruction.
I loved this book. The ending was very strange but i do hope that perhaps it is leading to another book?..Maybe? Hope so. I tried to find this author online but could not. In the back of the book is a website but when i tried it, it doesn't exist. too bad. Weird weird ending.
All good, but the ending.

I have to agree with one of the past reviews for this book. This book was really good, the plot was very substansial, but there were a couple of problems with this one...first of all, unless I missed it, I do not think that there was ever a real concrete solving of who killed Agnes Rivera....plus this book ended really, really strange! I think that this book left a lot of questions unanswered for the reader. I think that in the end, the reading had to use his/her own imagination and come up with an ending that satisfied them. In the end...good book, but just a really weird ending!!!! I just hope that this not a precursor to what this author has to offer in future installments with his work.

David Rothberg is a psychiatrist who takes on the job of evaluating violent criminals who are close to being paroled back into the society they menaced. His friend and supervisoradvises to rely on the computer program that analyzes the criminal and base his recommendation on that report. David disagrees and wants his recommendation to be based on his own personal interaction with the criminal. His first patient Victor Janko AKA the baby carriage killer. Fifteen years ago he was convicted of a crime that was brutally violent and occurred in front of the eyes of her young son. The computer program, his supervisor and the prison guard all say Victor is damaged goods and should stay in jail. David thinks this man can be helped through medicine and therapy. As he begins his evaluation of this patient startling revelations come to light which turnseverything upside down. ..... With him being a doctor this scenario is highly unlikely. The rest of his novel is original and has quite a few surprises in it. The ending fits the rest of the story and leaves readers satisfied yet you might have to rethink your feeling of guilt or innocence for Victor. Rating 9

The review by 'Publisher's Weekly' is way off the mark. This book was reccomended to me by a friend who simply couldn't stop raving. Far from being 'dull' as this reviewer stated, 'Dangerious Behavior' is a non-stop roller coaster ride...and the surprise ending blew me away. I can't wait to see the movie...and can't wait for Marks' next book. He is up there with the best of them. This book is page-turner and a must-read!!Michael Harry
