It is required by my course TDC 425 about telecommunication and data network.I don't have a technical background but this book is so well written that it could be enjoyed by anyone. It provides a great overview about networks, without overwhelming the reader with tedious facts. Every now and then the material is explained with the help of nice diagrams/pictures which make it easy to understand the language. Also the author made it easy flowing by giving a touch of humor now and then. There were only certain chapter required to be read for my course but it is so captivating that I end up reading almost whole book. I enjoyed this book.
I actually learned something...

This book laid out as much information as possible without cluttering the pages with filler. There were several real-world examples, and the helpful diagrams really put the words into action. Now, there's any humor in this book, so don't expect to be entertained. And there's a lot of information in this book. I mean a lot. But if you actually want to learn something about networking and data communications, you won't be disappointed.

First, i must thank the author who wrote this book is very helpful when i encountered a problem from this book, i e-mail to him. Some of my background, i'm a student studying at "Informatics", an IT college in which a guidance recommends to read this book for the CS course. I used this book and got A grade for the Networking module. This book is well-written and easy to understand and to learn in a manner. Although you might not read whole chapters in this book because it covers many different kind of topics in relation to computer network and the flow of data in a variety of network environments. It also gives you a basis of networking concept including the most updated networking technologies and the techniques, such as "Internet 2, IPv6, Switching, and Encryption," used nowadays. It is designed for those who are now studying year 1 or even year 2 at university or planning to excel or now working in IT industry. That's why it designated "A Business User's Approach" Because of the book is to be designed for different kind of people, therefore you might just want to read some of which chapters are helpful based on what and where of your uses, situations, and backgrounds, etc... You just need to follow your learning pace on your studies or your jobs. Random reading in this book is further the way in which helps you to understand deeply and to apply. To sum up, i think it will not be disappointed to you. That's all my own opinions. Those who have any opinions are welcome to give a review to my views for this book. Thank you!!
Great Book for Beginners

One of my networking classes for IST required this book. I've read chapters 1,2,3,4,5,6, & 12. I actually enjoy reading this textbook and look forward to reading more chapters. Other students in my class enjoy reading it too. It goes into just enough details about the electronics behind the scene but nothing to extensive. It also provides a great overview about networks, without over welling the reader with tedious facts. The book starts out about the OSI model and then walks the reader through each layer. It is a great book and I would encourage any instructor seeking a textbook to test this one out, your students will be glad you did. *Also useful for someone interested in networking for the first time or someone who wants to see the whole picture.
