The rightful-born queen of Lyrnessos, Briseis watched helplessly from the battlements as her husband and brothers were crushed by the invincible army of King Agamemnon. Taken into slavery, the proud, beautiful seer became the prize of Prince Achilles, the conquering Greeks' mightiest hero. But passion forged chains stronger than any iron, binding the hearts of captive and captor with a love that knew no equal, and when Troy fell, great Achilles promised his beloved Briseis would reign at his side as queen of Thessaly. Yet the jealousy of a ruthless king and the whims of the capricious deities would deny the lovers their happiness. As the flames of war rose higher around them, the prophetess vowed to save the beloved warrior for whom her dark gift foretold doom -- even if it meant defying the gods themselves.
Hey, this is a great book, but don't be fooled by the byline "Sarah Franklin". It's really by Dave Duncan, a wonderful writer of fantasy. If you liked this one, give his other books a try. Especially the "A Man of His Word" series of 8 books - it starts with the Magic Casement (also available in used paperback).
Enthralling

One of my absolute favorite books. Written from an interesting perspective about Briseis and not simply the Trojan war. Sex scenes are not too overpowering, they are not the main focus which is nice. Just fabulous, I laughed, I cried, I couldn't put it down.
Beautiful and Captivating

I was very intrigued at first when I came across this book. Compared to the movie "Troy", this book is more consistent with Homer's "Iliad", although however, one needs to distinguish fact from fiction. Nonetheless, one gets a glimpse of life in ancient Greece. We experience death rituals, wedding ceremonies, and the daily worshipping rituals of gods and goddesses. The battle of Troy comes to life through the voice of Briseis, as she relates the events and people who played their parts in it. This book is a "must" for anyone who is true fan of historical fiction.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It was totally engrossing and well written. The journey of Briseis from girl, to queen, to lover was an engaging page turner. I felt like I was going through the heroine's journey. You won't be disappointed. Thanks, Sarah, for a great novel!
Enjoyed it until the end!

The story is told in such a fresh new way. It's actually a long book, and almost every page is interesting, and you read until the end, and you can't stop! This book is about a girl named Briseis and is narrated by her. She tells about her life, her brothers, parents, and the love. She had a husband, but her heart was won by Achilles. Its just a splendid historical fiction that i think everyone should be given a change to enjoy this book. I hope this author writes more books!
