This book covers Yves Saint Laurent's first year in fashion, 1962, when he presented a collection under his own name for the first time. In 1961, encouraged by Pierre Berge, he had left Dior to create his own line. For the next 40 years YSL continued to develope his particular fashion style, emphasizing the body and a seductive elegance. The photos in this book by Pierre Boulat, a photographer for Life, Time, Geo, National Geographic, and le Figaro, capture YSL's first few wildly creative years at his own fashion house.
not detailed enough to be a deep read but not big enough to be a coffee table book, yet still manages to be an overall charmer. most ysl books that were published after his death tend to linger on proustian references. the idea of yves' extended physical suffering from cancer coupled with the anxiety and proust can seem overly dramatized. this book gives a nice rounded somber view of ysl while still keeping his human characteristics intact. i wish this book was printed in a4.

Yves Saint Laurent wasone of the most talented fashionistas and awarded with tremendous acclaim. Now his company is directed by Tom Ford (who also designs for Gucci). This biography is true and sincere. It is very worth while
