Seventy one years ago, 1946, I was one of five young boys, including my younger brother, Jackie, that were on the scene of a tragic event in our Terre Haute, IN. neighborhood. A drowning at the Wabash River, which was less than a mile from our respective homes, brought the five of us into a world that we never, ever dreamed could happen in our lives. We were not prepared, nor could we ever be, to witness all that happened as the emergency crews, police department, fire department, volunteer swimmers, boats, grappling hooks, and neighborhood parents all worked feverishly to try to save a young boy's life. This book expands on the possibility of what could have transpired in his life if things had turned out differently. Knowing the victim, as a neighborhood playmate, and he, as a very close friend to my younger brother, it seemed incomprehensible that this event could evolve so quickly and so tragically. It has made its mark, forever in our memories and has done so for the past 70+ years.
