I found my first Charles G. West novel, "Son of the Hawk" at my local library, intrigued by the (paperback) cover art. Before I was 5 pages into the story, I knew I had found a really GOOD Western Writer. In my time, I have read thousands of books, many hundreds of them westerns. Some have been outstanding, some mere pot-boilers. Charles G. West is no Elmer Kelton, but I find his books to be unfailingly dynamic, detailed, earthy, authentic, realistic and extremely satisfying! Since that first one, I have now read all but two of his books, as fast as he can write them, and most are sitting on my bookshelves. Try ANY of his books - I doubt that you'll be disappointed!
