A very factual book on Alexandria, Egypt. Too bad the Egyptians, Turks, and other nationalities through the ages have "lost" the site of Alexander the Great's tomb.

This book is a collection of history as well as pictures of past and present history.Greek,Ottoman,Roman and modern. It includes all the phases of Alexandria.From the time of her popularity to her downfall.The book is rather small compacted and has about 200 pages. Extremely well written,with many interesting details. Having lived in Alexandria for 30 years of my life I can sincerely vouch that this book is great. If you really like Alexandria Egypt then this book is a must to have.

This slim little volume is a nice, accessible history of Alexandria from its founding by Alexander the Great to the present day, written by an expert for the sake of interested non-experts. "A picture's worth a thousand words" seems to be the guiding axiom behind the format, which abounds in colorful and helpful illustrations. That said, a lot of interesting detail is packed into the deceptively short, compact chapters as well. The selection of excerpts from primary sources at the end also fleshes out the historical narrative nicely. Portable and with frequent section breaks in the chapters, this book is ideal for those who want to do some armchair travelling during their commute by bus or train--and the tourist travelling for real will of course find it a handy reference. And it makes a great intro for anyone curious about this great, fascinating city.
