I 've played the game. But this story takes place with only parts of the game. The endding is different from the video game. But this book was really quite funny. It's a one book story so it's perfect for on the road.
Definately for fans of the series.... and that's about it.

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of the Disgaea manga when I reserved my copy of Disgaea 2 and needless to say, I was pretty excited to sit down and read it. While it wasn't quite what I expected, it wasn't bad either. The personalities of the characters are pretty much the same (although Laharl does seem a lot more malicious than in the game) but it does suffer from some of the same inconsistancies that you would be liable to find in novels turned movies and vice-versa. There are differences in the overall story between the manga and game, as well as some slight changes in the netherworld itself (Laharl's vassals are quite numerous, but they all pretty much hate him for instance). If you are a fan of the series, it is worth checking out if not just for the funny moments that are always waiting to be seen. Just don't expect it to be exactly like the game or anything. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with it, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you find, but odds are it will just be too far out there to really grab you. It doesn't really grab you with any storytelling or anything like nearly all of the truly successful mangas do, so it can be difficult if you are not a fan.
