Not having read the first of these it appears a couple of the groups of characters have a history, a pair of rogue 'entrepreneur' parters, a human and an alien, and a group that includes a researcher. Here's another story of the search for ancient alien race technology, and the race themselves, the Builders. This leads to a surprise trip and a nasty revelation that they aren't the only ones there. Throughout the novel there are 'excerpts' from a Galactic Encyclopedia type of publication, or database, that fills you in on the various species, between chapters. The book is a little ordinary at the start - which is possibly also a function of not being familiar with exactly what happened before, but gets much better later on. A 3 for the first part, and a 4 for the later part, if you like. 3.5 out of 5
