From the acclaimed author of Lottie's Courage comes the story of 11-year-old Teddy, whose family is torn apart by the Revolutionary War. His father is a patriot; his mother a loyalist. Teddy... This description may be from another edition of this product.
A book that shows a tween or teen how life does not have defined edges. I was very fortunate to meet Mrs. Haislip at Colonial Williamsburg when she was doing a book signing. As a history professor and being from Williamsburg, she was very concerned with presenting the story as if it actually happened. She is able to give the characters the personalities that make you want to know more about them. As the story develops and as Teddy grows, up you see how he looks at the world first as a child and gradually as a young man. A reader will learn along with Teddy about life and people, the things that tend to be the same no matter what era. I am looking forward to reading her other books.
Undivided praise

Undivided praise for this story which encapsulates the dilemmas, complexities, and sacrifices of the Revolutionary War while staying true to eleven-year-old Teddy's point of view. I was caught, like Teddy by his tutor Mr. Grum, from the very first page.
A wonderful book

I found this book to be an incredibly fun read. I tend to detest historical fiction, but this book really appealed to me. The author combines historical facts and dates with a captivating, twisting plot that kept me in the book until the very last word. I only wish that the book had been longer, as it left me wishing for more. One of the best books I've read in a while, without a doubt.
