It is the language of the soul: a language that touches the heart and opens the mind. Poetry accepts you in all of your brutality and your beauty, with all of your loneliness and your longing, given all of your grossness and all of your greatness. Your spirit cannot be confined by the rules of the world no matter how much you may try to live within the lines. Your humanity lies in how well you live out the truth of your heart and how much you serve the aim of your soul. The best way to do so is to learn to listen to the divine whispering to you. It is the practice of a lifetime, the pathway to cultivating your own wisdom, and the pointer to your purpose in life.These poems, with rare exception, were all written in 2012 and 2013, mostly from moments in the world when the divine whispered in the clouds or in the moon or in the flight of a bird or in the dark of the night. Some whispers were faint and faltering, a hushed dialogue, interrupted and broken by silences that required a patient and attentive heart over time. Others came with an urgency that would not let up until the piece was complete. But all came with the feel of a door opening, a world beckoning, and an invitation to step beyond the unknown edge. In some cases, the door opened to the day and, in others, to the night. But in all cases, the door opened to life offering passageway to a deepening participation in the mystery of human experience in all its alarming reality and awesome beauty.The challenge, and the privilege, of the poet is to hear the whispers, to recognize the open door, and to find the courage, or the craziness, to step over the unknown edge. Poetry can lead you to the open door, but only you can step over that unknown edge into your life. May these poems awaken you to the divine in your life and help you hear it whispering in the secret language that synchronizes your soul and harmonizes your heart. The world needs the truth and beauty of each person and the wisdom you uncover will serve to lift all of humanity.
