Until now, most health professionals have considered diabetes a one-way street. Once you developed it, you were stuck with it--and you could anticipate one complication after another, from worsening... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Good information for type two diabetics and anyone wanting good health.

for anyone serious about their health. Requires commitment. Good advice similar to Fuhrman, Ornish, Esselstyn, Campbell. They all recommend a plant-based diet with restricted S.O.S. (salt, oil, sugar) and animal products. There will be a struggle to eat this way for those brought up on the S.A.D. (standard American diet).
Win over diabetes

This is a well written sound advice for American diabetes. American diet is toxic to your health! Hot dog with buns, hamburgers, French fries and soda are cheap and consumers pay a high price in terms of health, especially becoming victims of diabetes! Follow Dr Barnard's plan to come back for good health with diet, exercise and stress control.
Only your will power and determination will help you restore your health for a productive life.
The China Study is another good read because it was read and followed by a former president who suffered heart attack with his hamburger, freedom fries and HCFS soda diet!

As an RN I find this information easy for the lay person to understand and apply. My brother has used a lot of this information and his diabetes is very controlled (off medication) and he has no other diabetic related problems. This is a must read for all diabetes and their families. The large print book is so helpful!
Barnard's approach works, mostly vegetarian

I started with the vegatarian diet to help with my weight, blood sugar etc with Barnard's earlier books. My mother would be proud to see that I am eating so many veggies, and fruits now...I should have listened sooner. She was diabetic and died from heart disease and diabetic complications (eyes, circulation issues, and the rest). I remember the injections, hypoglycemia, ketosis, and problems with "balancing" blood sugar. Both of my younger sisters use insulin and are overweight and struggling with diabetes. So I took control with Barnard's help. At first it was hard, and it's hard to give up cheese, and I do have eggwhites (Ornish's suggestion) but it's working. Started 3 years ago, and now I am mostly vegan. Also hard to do on business travel but I have figured out ways to eat vegan even in Europe! And the new ways to enjoy veggies....yum! Now I don't have to take insulin, oral or injections, and for the first time my A1C is below 6.0...down to 5.8, without medications for the past 18 months! I read this new book to understand more technical details about why it works. While I was reading Barnard's new book, I was reading Dr. Ricard K. Bernstein's "Diabetes solution: the complete guide to achieving normal blood sugars." Bernstein's approach assumes you will stay on medications to "control" insulin, and shows the difficulties of balancing diet, meds etc. It scared me to think that you have to live with the complications and try to get it to work. Try bringing insulin on a flight with gel packs with the TSA. Bernstein gives no indication that his own advice has worked for him or his patients. He's type 1, and his type 2 patients are "balancing" insulin and food. Well, my doctor is overjoyed that with a vegetarian diet and exercise alone I have gotten the fasting glucose, after meal glucose and A1Cs in normal ranges. Ask yourself, what is simpler...giving up the meat and fat, eating veggies and good high fiber carbs and exercise, or dealing with monitoring, injections or oral medications, complications and trying balance an untenable situation???!!!! So what if Barnard's PRCM gets PETA funding and has a vegan-religion agenda? You can be vegan for health and not political reasons. It it worth your health NOT to try? Try it for a month and see it work....and yes I lost weight too!!! Read the book, start the program and bring it to your doctor to read too! There is a section for doctors too. The website has detailed flyers for doctors to read...now my doctor is recommending the program too.
Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes

Great Program with scientific evidence that will help most all diabetics. Have been on this program for 5 weeks. Within the first week my blood glucose levels dropped 15-20 points. In the last four weeks I have maintained within 80-110 on my morning checks. Have used many of the recipes and amazingly am not hungry at all. I have eliminated the nightly dosage of Metformin. My goal is to eliminate all medications. The American Diabetes Association should rethink their diet plans.
