I teach child psych classes every semester at both the undergrad and graduate level. So I know the theories, the basics, and I (mostly) parented my children "by the book." BUT . . . to be honest, sometimes I did NOT follow best practices. I did NOT do what I taught in my classes. I was NOT the best mother possible, that my students expected. Yes, I was the "Dragon mom." I loved this book! I laughed out loud several times! Gonzalez-Mena is "every-mom" in that she sometimes does what feels right, even though she knows that it is not the right thing to do! Her detailed examples clearly show the dllemma--even a highly trained child psychologist doesn't always do what the research suggests. I laughed; and more importantly, I felt relieved, as I read that even an expert like Gonzalez-Mena was sometimes the "dragon mom." I highly recommend for everyone, but ESPECIALLY for child psych professors and other professionals!
