More dynamic random access memory (DRAM) circuits are manufactured than any other integrated circuit (IC) in production today, with annual sales in excess of US$25 billion. In the last two decades, most DRAM literature focused on the user rather than the chip designer. This comprehensive reference makes DRAM IC design accessible to both novice and practicing engineers, with a wealth of information available in one volume. DRAM chips contain both analog and digital circuits, requiring a variety of skills and techniques to accomplish a superior design. This easy-to-read tutorial covers transistor-level design of DRAM building blocks, including the array and architecture, voltage regulators and pumps, and peripheral circuits. DRAM Circuit Design will help the IC designer prepare for the future, in which DRAM will be embedded in logic devices for complete systems on a chip. Topics covered include: DRAM array peripheral circuitry global circuitry and considerations voltage converters synchronization in DRAMS. DRAM Circuit Design is an invaluable introduction for students, academics, and practitioners with a background in electrical and computer engineering. Applications engineers and practicing IC designers will develop a better understanding of the important facets of DRAM device structure across the board.
All you need to design dram. However, it is for processes optimized for dram, and not generic processes. Specifically, the use of special storage cap structures that are not generally available make embedded dram no more cost effective the sram. The book will show you why, but doesn't address embedded dram issues.
Great book for the beginner or the intermediate circuit designer

This book is a great introduction into DRAM circuit design. Not only does it provide a high level description of DRAM architecture, it also clearly explains the sub blocks that comprise the entire DRAM. Transistor level circuit diagrams and critical timing waveforms are provided to more clearly describe each block. In many cases, the author provides more than one circuit solution and demonstrates the advantages and disadvantages of each. This book is easy to read, practical, informative, and well worth the price for anyone who is considering DRAM circuit design as a career or just simply wants to know more about these types of circuits. Well done!

I like this book because the authors explain the DRAM concept in plain Ebglish. Besides the easy-to-understand part, the authors also list the reasons why certains things cannot be done. I think this is great because most of books only tell the readers how to design the circuit but fail to mention the tradeoff behind that.Overall, this book is really a good tutorial for people who are interested in the DRAM design.

As an EE student in CMOS VLSI design, I find that this book is very useful to erase the gap between the classic CMOS digital/analog design textbooks and journals, such as IEEE J. solid state circuits. Chapter 3 Array architecture is particularly interesting. Strongly recommend this book to the students who are interested in pursuing a career in CMOS VLSI design.
Good tutorial into memory design field.

After reading the book, in my opinion, it covers the major points of memory design. From functional overview, memory cell, array architecture, decoding, redundancy to interface. Attached with major circuit diagrams, as well as waveforms that show cricial signal timings, I think this book serves as a complete overview to DRAM design. Another plus is the reference paper listing in the book is clear and helpful to the readers who want to continue to explore in the field.
