Running Fawn loves her Blackfoot tribe's way of life -- especially returning to their winter camp every year. But the arrival of white men, with their diseases and guns, resulting in the elimination of the life-sustaining buffalo herds, leaves her people with little choice but to move to the Reserve. Then Running Fawn's life changes even more drastically when she is sent to the mission boarding school, where she learns about the white man's God. But Running Fawn is reluctant to give up the religion of her own people. Is this foreign God really for her, too? Book jacket.
i borrowed this book a few years back and read it a dozen times in one year. i delayed returning it as long as i could and have ever since been looking for it, to buy it. thankfully i found it last year! it's so wonderful, romantic and adventurous. the lovely indian girl who is the heroine tries to resist finding Jesus with all her might, but both the missionary and another indian are in love with her. they both try very hard to lead her to the truth and protect her from danger in the wilderness. so tender and loving they both are towards her! i also loved the indian names, so smart and descriptive. i think one of Oke's best books ever!

Well, we were supposed to chose a book from all the books in the library for a book record. I have chosen this book from all others and it appeals to me that it's a wonderful book, a book worth reading. Vivid descriptions that makes me feel as though i was in the surrounding too, experiencing the events.
One of the best books you will ever read!

Janette Oke is my favorite author, and this is my favorite book. Running Fawn is a character that seems so real that by the end of the book, she felt like my best friend. I could feel everything she was going through. I wanted to cry when she was miserable at the school. No matter how many books I read, this will always be my favorite.
