The title of this book describes the state of the western world's population at this moment in time. Life seems to be geared to make us feel isolated and financially stressed. Working from 9 to 5, we never question authority and are kept so busy that we have no time to contemplate life, nor to develop our critical thinking ability or investigate who we are. Most of our values and beliefs we learn from our parents, and these are then replaced by other institutions such as early childhood centres, high schools, religions, nationalities, and corporations.
