I initially bought this cookbook to impress a girldfriend with my cooking, who is now my wife, LOL. Not that it was because of my cooking, but when I made dinner for us at my place, she was very impressed. Even after a few years of having it, I continue to use some of the recipes I've committed to memory as a dish I serve up when I cook for my family. I can't vouch for all of them-- I bypassed the recipes that require ingredients that can only apply to that dish but the ones that I have used tasted phenomenal! I really didn't have a lot of cooking experience myself, but I just made sure to follow the instructions closely and watching my food at half times (sometimes even quarter times) like a hawk to make sure there wasn't any over or uneven cooking, and voila! There it was! So it is possible, gents--we CAN cook, LOL. It gets all of my stars--recipes are fairly easy to prepare and tastes great!
Nice book for dudes with some kitchen knowledge

This book is a nice, humorous cookbook for dudes for know a bit about cooking and are looking for relatively simply recipes to eat well, impress dudettes or feed the family. The recipes require pretty standard pantry ingredients. Some knowledge of kitchen lore is also needed. For instance, it would be very useful to know what "creaming the butter" means in the baking recipes. The recipes I've tried out came out very well. My favorite is the chocolate chip cookie recipe which has a few ingredients not found in the average chocolate chip cookies. The ingredients (malt powder and instant espresso) added quite a kick and another dimension to the cookie! The book also contains a few eclectic recipes, such as the one where you use a dishwasher to cook salmon! I have to admit that I haven't tried this one because I don't have a dishwasher. Overall, this book is a good starting point for guys who want to expand their repertoire other than a can of Boyardee. If it fails to impress the dudettes, at least you'll get better nutrition!
neat little cookbook for those of us who are culinary challenged

This is a cute little book, written in the style of 1960's mod--betty crocker. Written with the bachelor in mind, the recipes are delectable, yet non-challenging. They even have an EASY version of Baked ALaska, who knew that was possible? Makes a great gift for anyone that could use a no nonsense reference guide in the kitchen.....
Dude Review

At first, I was turned off by even receiving this book as a gift. I am 22, green behind the ears, and fresh out of college. Yes, I've had my fill of Ramen and Mac & Cheese, but thought that this book was, well, beneath me. I thought that until I actually made some of the recipes. My dinner companion (girlfriend) was astounded by the food--I'm sure it helped that I made her faves! As soon as she walked in she commented on how great my place smelled. The dinner was fabulous, and made me love Dude Food. Dude Food is the only cookbook I own, granted it is not by any means thourough, but it is a great starter for guys like me. The recipes are simple to follow and every possible pitfall is laid out for you and explained. One of these days, when I stop ordering in, I'm going to try some more recipes.
Best of the bunch

With bookstore shelves -- virtual or otherwise -- loaded with volumes on cooking and style, the Brooks-Bosker-Darmon team is in a class by itself. Dude Food, their latest treat, is filled with wit and substance. Each chapter is a unique blend of nifty -- and easy -- recipes, social commentary and dynamite graphics. I've made some terrific meals with this book, laughing all the way.
