Richard and Veronica Stevens take an early retirement so they can pursue other interests. Shortly after moving to Florida Veronica begins volunteering at a local domestic abuse shelter. One day a young Mexican woman shows up at the shelter severely beaten and fearing for her life. Despite knowing it's against shelter policy Veronica can't help but get personally involved.
